All on 4

Diagram of All-On-4 Treatment ConceptIf you have lost most of your teeth, you need to have them replaced so you can eat, speak, and smile with confidence. Traditionally, teeth were replaced with dentures. Today, though, we make use of dental implants to replace teeth. If you have lost all or most of the teeth on your upper jaw, lower jaw, or both, the team here at Masci, Hale & Wilson Advanced Aesthetic and Restorative Dentistry may be able to make use of the All-on-4® Treatment Concept to easily replace all of your teeth.

What Is All-on-4?

The All-on-4 Treatment Concept is a way of replacing all of your teeth on the upper or lower jaw at once. With single implants, you need one post per crown. Even with three or four teeth next to each other, you still need several posts. However, the All-on-4 Treatment Concept replaces the entire arch of teeth using only four posts. This method has a number of benefits, and many people are good candidates for it.

The Benefits of the All-on-4 Treatment Concept

The All-on-4 Treatment Concept has all of the benefits of a single and multiple tooth implant. These include permanent teeth that do not need to be removed like dentures, support for your jawbone, and a natural look that restores your smile. Beyond this, there is the fact that only four titanium posts are required to attach all of your replacement teeth. With only four posts, the placement surgery takes less time, and you will recover faster than you would if we had to place posts for every tooth. The cost is typically lower, too.

How Are All-on-4 Implants Placed?

The process for having your All-on-4 dental implants placed typically takes several procedures. If you do not have a strong jawbone due to deterioration, we may first need to do a bone graft. This will involve building up the jawbone using bone taken from other parts of the body or using artificial bone. We may also need to remove any impacted teeth or the remains of any deteriorated teeth and allow the gums to heal before we can place your implant posts.

Once we have handled any of those necessary tasks, we will place the four titanium posts that will hold the arch in place. Once these posts are placed, we will place a set of temporary crowns on them. These temporary teeth will allow you to eat and speak normally, but we can remove them during checkups to see the status of the posts and how well you are healing. Once you have fully healed, which can take as long as six months, we will place your permanent replacement teeth on the posts.

Who Can Get All-on-4 Dental Implants?

Many people who have lost most or all of their teeth are good candidates for All-on-4 implants. However, you do need to have a strong jawbone and healthy gums. If you do not, we may have to do bone grafting and work to deal with other oral health issues first. Once you are healthy, we can move forward with placing dental implants.
